Life in Ancient Greece, pt.2, plus other stuff

This past week we finally finished our study of ancient Greece, which I have been doing with the children on and off all summer. Now we have a week off, then we will go back to doing real school (by "real" I mean boring: handwriting, spelling, etc.) again. But having a relaxed, summer study was so fun for us! Besides reading some great books and doing fun projects we learned a new Greek word every day. Then we would put them together for fun like this:
dendrongraphaphobia: the fear of drawing trees
mikrosauropolis: city of tiny lizards
hypnolithopathy: to share in the feelings of sleeping stones
Now, here is Aiden sporting a Spartan helmet made from spaghetti and play-doh. He is also munching on the same dried spahetti. Plato in play-doh
A phalanx of lego men
Enough of Greece! Here's what else is going on. Asher left on Friday to stay with Jason's parents for a week by himself. We are missing him but he is having a great time. Meanwhile, Autumn and Aiden are playing without him. In this picture below you might think that we have a very messy patio, (which is usually true) but no, in fact you're looking at a very elaborate scooter obstacle course with different player levels and point systems!

Lastly, today Autumn had a graduation party in her Sunday school class. It was a Hawaiian theme so she got to wear her dress from Hawaii. Then she was able to recite the books of the New Testament the fastest in her class and won $5!
