School Dates

Last year I had taken each of my children out on separate dates to talk about the upcoming school year with them. They and I enjoyed it so much I did it again recently. The point of the conversations was to impress upon them the reality that when we "did school" it was for them, not for me. It is funny to see the looks of surprise on their faces when I said we don't do school because I like it (although most of you know I enjoy teaching them immensely) but because they will need it in their future. Then we went over each subject individually and talked about it and set goals for the year.

My date with Autumn was on the plane flying to Oklahoma over a giant chocolate chip cookie and a sprite. Her favorite part of school is writing and her future ambitions are working in a restaurant (maybe opening a pizza shop called Cheezy's), adopting a girl, and being an author/illustrator.

My date with Asher was at Bella Rosa Coffee House over a blueberry muffin and hot chocolate (I had a Chai Latte). His favorite thing to learn about is history, specifically weapons. He would love to be a Lego designer (no surprise there), pilot Air Force planes remotely, and help Autumn at Cheezy's.

My date with Aiden was at Granny's Restaurant on the 101 over soft serve ice cream. He leaned down to look at something and put his head in my ice cream bowl. He likes it best when I read aloud Magic Tree House books to him and hates handwriting, but agrees he needs to work on it most. He would like to be a fireman or police officer when he grows up!

What a good idea to spend time with your kids this way, productive, too! So funny, but when I was reading Aiden's reply it sounds eerily similar to how Andre would answer.
